Step 1 · Driver license

Transfer your license to Florida

Everyone brings full REAL ID documents, even if your old license is already REAL ID, and even if you once had a Florida license.

$54.25 · one appointment per person

Before you go

  • Complete the online license application. It’s valid for 60 days. Don’t print it.
  • Book at taxcollector.com/appointments. Each person needs their own appointment.
  • Changed your name? Report it to Social Security at least 48 hours before your visit.
  • Resolve any unpaid tickets or suspensions in other states first, since they’ll block your license.

At the counter

  • You’ll surrender your out-of-state license. You can hold a license or an ID card, not both.
  • Photo, plus a vision and hearing test. Bring your glasses.
  • Lost your old license? Only the Driver License Branch (904 301 Blvd. W.) can help, and it can take 3–5 days.
  • Veterans can add the veteran designation free with a DD-214.
